In May 2025, pianist and composer Chris Stiles unveils Back Home — a bold new album of original compositions and horn arrangements that capture the fire, grace, and soul of a life spent chasing the music across continents.
Known for his deeply swinging style and sophisticated harmonic approach, Chris has earned praise from critics like Scott Yanow, who wrote of his 2020 trio performance streamed online at Blue House Productions, “The Chris Stiles Trio swings its way through straight ahead originals and a few obscurities, showing that there is still plenty of life to be found in bebop when it is played with enthusiasm, sophistication and creativity.”
Over a career spanning more than 25 years, Chris has performed across the United States and Asia, building a voice rooted in the tradition but alive with personal history. After five years on the Washington, DC jazz scene, he moved to New Delhi in 2022, becoming a fixture at The Piano Man Jazz Club and collaborating with Indian musicians to expand his musical language. Earlier in his career, he co-founded and composed for the Dragon Jazz Quartet in China, and played packed stadiums in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore alongside stars like Stefanie Sun (孫燕姿) and Karen Mok (莫文蔚). He has also shared American stages with legends such as The Temptations.
Chris studied under virtuoso jazz pianist Chuck Marohnic and award-winning Chicago pianist Michael Kocour at Arizona State University, grounding his adventurous spirit in deep tradition.
