The Andy Ferris Quartet
An established ensemble on the Taipei Jazz Scene with a harmonically rich and sophisticated sound, the Andy Ferris Quartet (AFQ) plays an engaging and creative mix of original works along with compositions from the wider jazz repertoire from past to present. Formed in 2022, this mixed nationality quartet makes regular appearances at various venues and events around Taiwan. Led by Canadian guitarist Andy Ferris, the quartet features American pianist Damian Garcia, along with the all Taiwanese rhythm section of Yu Jia Liu (bass) and Jeffery Lin (drums).

▪︎Damian Garcia (Piano)
Originally from Austin, TX, and recently relocated to Taipei, Taiwan, pianist Damian A. Garcia is quickly making a name for himself in the Taipei jazz scene. A pianist since the age of five, he later attended the Stanford University Jazz Residency, the University of North Texas Jazz Workshop, the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, and was awarded the Piano Achievement Award by the Texas State University School of Music. Damian graduated from the world-renowned University of North Texas jazz studies program where he studied piano with Stefan Karlsson, Michael Palma, and Dan Hearle. Since graduating he has been an active performer, and is credited on dozens of studio recordings. He has performed alongside many great musicians including Paquito d’Rivera, Claudio Roditi, Wayne Bergeron, Frank Wess, Butch Miles, Bob Mintzer, John Fedchock, Taylor Eigsti, Jamey Aebersold, Andre Hayward, Tom Brechtlein, among many others others. Most recently, his music has taken him to Japan, having performed several times among some of the best musicians in Tokyo.

▪︎Yu Jia Liu (Bass)
Double bassist and composer Yu Jia Liu studied at National Tainan University of the Arts and the Department of Music at National Dong Hwa University. He was an award-winning student in both institutions and also began working as an instructor in 2015. In 2016, he was awarded first prize in the Taipei Jazz Rookie Competition. That same year, he participated in the multi-media cross-border musical “Love” at the National Concert Hall. In 2018, he began co-planning the “Original Music Tour Project” with German pianist Julian Moreen. In 2019, he was invited to perform at the Taichung Jazz Festival in Taiwan with the Julian Moreen Quartet. He has performed internationally in Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany.

He joined the army band in 2009, and after being discharged in 2010, he began to appear in major Jazz Live Houses in Taipei such as Blue Note, Yuppy Bookstore, Sappho Live, Xiangxiang along with other venues. He has been deeply influenced by the styles of masters such as Philly Joe Jones, Elvin Jones and Roy Haynes, and has studied with Quincy Davis and Masahiko Osaka. In 2016, he was awarded third place in the Taichung Jazz Festival Rookie Competition with the “Li Fangxu Trio”. He currently performs in several venues in Taipei, and has performed at headline events at Taipei Jazz Festival and Taichung Jazz Festival.
