將後龐克、電子、數字搖滾、靈魂樂風、Funk融冶於一身，來自紐約布魯克林的TV on the Radio曾受4AD、Touch And Go品味出眾的音樂廠牌洗禮，屢次出輯皆不同凡響，就拿樂迷津津樂道的《親愛的科學》來說，贏得品味刁鑽的Pitchfork9.2分、英國衛報五顆星評價。

Kyp Malone，TV on the Radio樂團吉他手， 一位多才多藝的音樂家。他是前urban folk團體Iran成員，還化名Rain Machine玩起一人樂團，以主唱、電吉他為基礎，加上合成器、loop與即興人聲。至於他的DJ sets則熟練地把實驗電子、氛圍、節拍作為素材，當然延續TV on the Radio不高冷的態度，摻入流行R’n’B元素。

等等，Kyp Malone跟遊牧影展有什麼關係呢？原來他長期活躍於布魯克林地下音樂場景，在Death By Audio登台無數次，與《再見地下布魯克林》一票地下樂圈人是熟到不能再熟的麻吉。順帶一提，《搖滾快門》中他也驚喜現身，同時出現在兩部音樂片中，多麼討喜的巧合！

今年，我們很榮幸邀請Kyp Malone以《再見地下布魯克林》劇組身分親臨遊牧影展開幕現場。此外他還會出席【DIY音樂：布魯克林vs.台北】座談會，協同《再見地下布魯克林》導演Matt Conboy、製片Amanda Schultz，地下社會創辦人何東洪、地下社會經理小姚暢談紐約的Death By Audio與台北的地下社會面臨被迫歇業的共通處境。

KYP MALONE AT 2017 URBAN NOMAD

Kyp Malone is a multi-instrumentalist best known as guitarist in the band TV on the Radio, the eclectic indie rock group that fused cut up beats and math rock with funk and world music. He’s also a former member of the urban folk group Iran and has performed as his solo project Rain Machine. Kyp’s solo performances are a raw combo of vocals and electric guitar, but also incorporating synth, loops and improvised vocal work. His DJ sets mix experimental electronic, ambient, and “world” beats with some pop R’n’B inevitably.

Kyp comes to Taiwan at the invitation of the Urban Nomad Film Fest as part of the Brooklyn indie music crew representing the festival’s opening film, Goodnight Brooklyn. (He also appears very briefly in the film Shot! The Psychospiritual Mantra of Rock.)

Kyp is a long time part of the Brooklyn underground music scene and performed numerous times at Death By Audio, the legendary Brooklyn livehouse. Along with Death By Audio founder Matt Conboy, he’ll appear at Goodnight Brooklyn Q&A sessions. Since Death By Audio’s story is very similar to that of Underworld, an important Taipei livehouse shut down by a neighborhood committee in 2013 after 18 years of operation. Kyp, Matt and Goodnight Brooklyn producer Amanda Schultz will come together with their counterparts from Underworld, first at a panel discussion on the afternoon of 5/13, and later when Kyp DJs with Underworld regulars that same night a party at Pipe.
